Deadline Intro

by Helena

Hey guys, here is my into into this months book: Deadline, by Chris Crutcher.

"Just before his senior year, Ben Wolf is diagnosed with a rare, incurable leukemia. At 18, he has the legal right to keep the news to himself until he's ready to reveal it. With only his doctor and therapist in on his secret, Ben sets out to live an entire lifetime in a year." - Editorial Review

This is a short, young adult story that deals with some hard issues- and makes you laugh at the same time. I was trying to put my thoughts about this book into words, and realized that a few reviewers on Amazon said it best. "[This book]...showed that situation where you're keeping a secret, and maybe you think it's too soon to tell someone, and then the relationship progresses and suddenly it feels too LATE to tell them and it's a big mess."  And, "I liked how people made mistakes and there was no way to really fix them, no symbolic literary redemption whatever, just moving forward and doing the best they could."

This is a very quick read, and is highly entertaining. I hope you guys like it!
